Biography

Huub (Humberto) de Bruijn is a singer, accordionist, and pianist based in the Netherlands. He specializes in several musical genres, including: Tango, Argentine Folk Music, Opera, Musical Theater, and Art Song.

Huub began developing his musical talents from a young age at the music school in Hilvarenbeek. He studied accordion with Peter Comperen, and then piano with Johan Koch. In 1997, Huub had a six-month residency at the Conservatory in Tilburg under the tutelage of Ronald van Overbruggen. In 2002, with the help of the Flemish bayanist An Raskin, he transitioned from the piano accordion to the button accordion. Around the age of twenty-four, Huub rediscovered his passion for singing. He devoted his time to more fully developing his deep baritone voice, training with Marlies van Woerkum (2006-2008) and Harry Ruijl (2008-2012), teacher at the Tilburg Conservatory.

Beginning in 2011, Huub started taking singing and interpretation lessons and performed in masterclasses for various musicians, in the field of tango and Argentine folk music, such as: Maria José Ortiz, Anabella Zoch, Nilda Godoy, Miriam García, Juan Carlos Tajes, Guillermo Rozenthuler, and Alejandro Guyot. Huub studied piano and arrangement with tango pianist Wim Warman, teacher at the Rotterdam Conservatory. Huub travels to Argentina annually to continue his studies and keep up to date with current musical trends and developments.

Huub has performed with several groups, including: the Samenwerkingsverband Brabantse Openluchttheaters (SBO), Apollo ’77, the Filiassi theater group, Het Skomorovsky Orchestra, La Ocasión, Bikse Opera, and the KlarinetNsemble. Together with opera singer Lizet van Beek, Huub played with De Kleine Scala in theaters and festivals around the Netherlands and various European countries. He sang in 'El Bar de Julio,' 'El Faro,' and at the 'Festival de Tango de Valentín Alsina' in Buenos Aires. He has also sung in collaboration with tango guitarists Moscato Luna, Cacho Hussein, Lucio Arce, Juan Villarreal, and Leandro Nikitoff. Huub has been featured on Argentine radio and television.
